What we're reading this morning about $200,000 Escalades in China, Ford's electrics and what it takes to get Bruce Willis shooting from the back of an El Camino:
Ford 5-passenger Focus electric to get 100 mpg [Detroit News] Ford says its electric version of the Focus sedan will get the equivalent of 100 mpg, besting the Nissan Leaf's efficiency rating by 1 mpg-e, and that the upcoming C-Max hybrid will compete head-to-head against the Toyota Prius v. Over a typical year's worth of driving, that 100 mpg-e figure means the electric Focus driver would save roughly $10 over his Leaf cohort -- maybe a little more depending on electric utility rates. The Focus electric costs $2,000 more than a loaded Leaf.
China to impose new duties on U.S. cars [Bloomberg] After getting slapped with U.S. duties for dumping tires here, China will put new tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles. This won't win China any friends in Congress, but it's not likely to have much of an impact on Detroit and foreign automakers importing from the United States to China. Some 98% of the vehicles General Motors and other large automakers sell in China are built there -- and the vehicles imported from the United States are low-demand, high-end luxury models that already face massive duties, like the Cadillac Escalade SUV that sells for $219,400. Yet GM and other luxury makers still sell a few thousand imported models a year to wealthy Chinese customers for whom several thousand dollars is a pittance.
Jaguar acceleration tests supply [Wall Street Journal] Hidden inside: Expect green lights for a new entry-level Jag to plug a gaping hole in its lineup, and possibly a production version of the C-X16 two-seat concept.
Volvo prices V60 plug-in hybrid [Volvo] Sorry stateside greenies, this plug-in diesel Volvo wagon will only be sold in Europe, where it will cost $74,000. A similar version for the United States would run at even higher prices for the more advanced diesel pollution controls required in this country.
Trailer released for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" [Yahoo!] So many unanswered questions here, like how did Bruce Willis' character get that cool bedliner in time for his gun battle? (For what it's worth, Willis is an El Camino owner, and for that alone we may buy a ticket for this shooting gallery).
